                LOTS Computer Facility

                                               February 7, 1977

To: Deans, Department Heads, Administrators,
        Members of the Academic Council

From: Ralph E. Gorin, Manager

Subject: Use of LOTS for Spring Quarter Classes.

The LOTS Computer Facility exists to provide
computer services to aid instruction at Stanford. LOTS is now
in operation serving various classes in Electrical Engineering, Computer
Science, Education, etc. The LOTS staff is ready now to help you
move your courses to LOTS for Spring Quarter. We ask that you act
soon; if you wait until the end of March, we'll be too busy
to help you then.

Faculty members and TAs are encouraged to get LOTS accounts
now and to become familiar with the LOTS system before spring.
Presently, all of our terminals are located in the Center
for Education Research at Stanford Building (formerly known as the
SCRDT building). Please come visit us to open your account.
An introductory demonstration can be arranged for you; call Ralph
Gorin (7-1360) for an appointment.

Introductory sessions for new users will be held at various times
throughout this quarter. Two-session introductory meetings
will be held according to the following schedule:

New users should buy the LOTS DECsystem-20 Overview Manual which
is now available in the bookstore. You may also want to buy the
LOTS Basic and Fortran Manual.

If you have programs on the 370 that you want to use on LOTS for
Spring Quarter, please move them to LOTS soon.
For help in moving files from the 370, type the command
"HELP 370TAPE" when you'r? logged-in at LOTS.
Fortran source programs are usually easy to convert for LOTS, but
they do require some changes. For programs in other languages,
please consult the LOTS staff before attempting to move them.
